The following membership categories are offered:

Children are placed in age groups from Tiny Tots to U17 Boys and Girls based on the age of the child as of the 31st December 2021.

Note that children must have turned 3 years old before they commence Little Athletics. There is also a special membership category known as Recreational Athletics for athletes (including parents) over 17 years of age.

Registered athletes are able to compete in all centre and association events during the Track & Field and Cross Country seasons. Note, some association events have performance and attendance qualification criteria.

Tiny Tots

Children who are 3-4 years of age may be registered and participate in our Tiny Tots programme.

During the Track and Field season the emphasis is on FUN while developing basic motor skills through simple games. The fundamental skills of running, jumping and throwing are approached through "appropriate" activities for 3-5 year olds. Emphasis is not on competition but on the development of young children and this is incorporated in play and relatively unstructured games.

These games are managed by a Coordinator (usually a parent just like yourself that has had some experience/coaching in running the program) but requires that at least one parent remain with the child and assist the coordinator.

Games include activities such as running and jumping over rope ladders, mini hurdles, hoops, throwing and catching bean bags or playing with the big parachute. The children also get to participate in 'Athletics' events such as long jump or a 40m run on the track.

The Tiny Tots session starts at the same time as regular meets, 9.15am each Sunday and runs for approximately 1.5 hours. Tiny Tots sessions are also held at Association Meets such as the State Classic, State Carnival (TT-U8) and State Challenge, so they get an opportunity to see what SANTOS Stadium is like.

All Tiny Tots receive a Participation Medal and Certificate (see Awards) at the end of year Presentation Day.

During the Cross County season a Tiny Tots dash is run at every event.

Little Athletes

Little Athletes are in the U6 to U12 age groups. The focus is on fun, participation and improvement across all athletic events. The training focus is on athletic skills across all events.

Junior Athletes

Athletes in the U13 to U17 age groups are in a transition phase between Little Athletics and Seniors. Junior athletes start to focus more on performance and may undertake additional specialised training.

Junior athletes are permitted to wear elements of the Senior's uniform and may compete in Senior's competition by taking up membership of SALAA and ASA.

Recreational Athletes

Recreational Athletics is a participation entry point for members over the age of 17 to participate in friendly competition at Little Athletics SA centres and clubs, compete at the current Mums and Dads races at the Little Athletics SA Cross Country events, and Little Athletics SA Relay Day.
